Things you (maybe) didn't know about runway shows

Estel Vilaseca, from itFashion (one of the best blogs I read everyday) wrote a fabulous book titled "Runway Uncovered: The Making of a Fashion Show", in which she details every aspect of a fashion show. The secrets of the runway, the team needed to organize a successful event, the people involved, the before and after... Lots of important facts, interviews to professionals (if you wanna know what covering fashion week for Style.com means, check Laird Borrelli's interview) and amazing photographs by Sonny Vandevelde, Mark Reay and many more. An essential guide. Miss at la Playa appears on the book too... ;)

The book is available at Amazon here for $24,95. I've read the book (several times!) and I've compiled a list of interesting facts about runway shows. If you wanna know more, don't forget to read the book!

How often do you go shopping?

Reading fashion magazines and blogs can be dangerous. All the new clothes and collections presented in beautiful editorials, runway shots, articles... Make your wardrobe insignificant. The need to go shopping increases to unknown leveles and the credit card shivers at the prospect of a shopping rush. I'm sure the days in which fashionistas spend more money on clothing is around the 20th of the month, when the magazines come out, and not when the month starts and you've just received your salary. The Vogue reccomendations are unattainable, so we resign ourselves to Zara or H&M.

One of the best moments is when you return home with your arms full of shopping bags. You place all the clothes on the bed and admire the view. Oh, the outfits you'll create with those pieces. You put them inside the closet, and they slowly fade with the rest of the clothes you once admired on the bed.

----------------

Be the best dressed of the office

Most of the time is spent at work, and sometimes it can be difficult not getting bored with the outfits chosen every morning. They have to be trendy, but not too much, must be comfortable, and outstanding. It depends on where your work at. For example, fashion editors can be as stylish as they want, but if you work at a law firm, it would be out of place if you wore the Prada creepers or a Thierry Mugler dress -well, you can try, who knows!-. Susana and Cecilia, from Glamour and Vogue, always dress impeccably and following the latest trends. I've seen them at several events, I need to take their photo next time!

These suggestions by Elle Spain are really elegant and stylish. They are serious, trendy and original at the same time. Long trousers are back! Annie Hall would be happy...

Rachel Bilson's latest looks

rachel bilson

I love Rachel Bilson's style, it's very simple, but she always makes good choices. The clothes she combines are quite basic. She wears designer clothes, but they are easy to find remade by high street labels.

Here you have the outfits she's worn this past few weeks. It seems she loves that studded Burberry handbag, she wears it all the time :D What do you think? Do you like her style?

Oh, and my great friend Adolfo interviewed me for his blog. Check it out! (google translate version)

Blog's 4th Anniversary

mario testino let me in
That's right. The blog turned four years old a couple of weeks ago. More than 1000 posts, thousands of comments, and the most important, lots of happy moments.

To all of you who read the blog everyday, to those who just found it, this post is dedicated to you (well, every post is actually dedicated to you). Thank you for visiting Miss at la Playa. I hope you keep enjoying the blog for a long time.

To celebrate the anniversary of the blog, I'm posting the images from the book of my favourite photographer, Mario Testino. He's edited several books already, but "Let me in" is, undoubtedly, the one that best defines him. Celebrities like Angelina Jolie (with Ashton Kutcher) opened their home's doors to Mario Testino and let him immortalize their most spontaneous and intimate moments. A real sight into fame, from the positive and artistic eye of the peruvian photographer. You can buy the book online at Amazon for $34 (used). I highly recommend it.

----------------------

DIY by El Costurero

El Costurero is a magazine made with care. The first issue was launched some months ago, and it's dedicated to DIY tutorials. They've made some interesting guides on how to customize your clothes by several designers, like Marina Conde or La Casita de Wendy. Here you have my favourites:

You can check more info about the magazine at their blog Jugando con hilos (in spanish). By the way, they also sell cute products like these cookie soaps:
