No australian fashion week for Monika Jagaciak.

This 14 year old model was booked out from an international show and she won't be able to walk on this year's edition of Australia Fashion Week. Although she can appear on magazine covers, the shows are not for her. I think they did the right thing. On one hand, the younger the better, because she will make profit of her best years, she is young and her career will last longer. On the other hand, is it right to have a 14-year-old girl in a world of adults? She will miss her childhood unless she doesn't quit her studies.


The young models:
Tanya Dziahileva started modelling at the age of 14, appearing in Alexander McQueen, Anna Molinari, Aquascutum, Blumarine, Chanel, Chloe, Christian Dior, D&G, Dries van Noten, Etro, Giles Deacon, Givenchy, Gucci, Hermes, Jean Paul Gaultier, Jil Sander, John Galliano, Jonathan Saunders, Marni, MaxMara, Missoni, Miu Miu, Noir, Paul Smith, Prada, Preen, Rochas, Sportmax and YSL Rive Gauche. Such a great start, huh?


Brooke Shields appeared in 1980 on the cover of Vogue aged 14, reportedly the youngest cover girl in the magazine's history.

Elle Macpherson started modelling at the age of 17

Aleksandra Vasic was 13 years old when she appeared in the 2006 Zandra Rhodes show. She became the youngest model to appear in London Fashion Week.

Gerren Taylor became the youngest model to be signed in the modelling agency L.A Models, she was 12 years old. “They don't have to know you're 12, don't bring your Barbies.” said her agent.

Elizabeth Jagger, daughter of Mick and Jerry Hall, made her catwalk debut in 1998 aged 14, in Thierry Mugler with her mother

Aline Z was 12 when she appeared on the Thierry Mugler show.



Karlie Kloss is 15 years old now and opened the shows of Carolina Herrera, Doo.Ri, Rebecca Taylor, Marni, Pringle of Scotland, and Pucci in last fashion week, and closed Doo.Ri, Jill Stuart, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Matthew Williamson, Alberta Ferretti, Just Cavalli, Pringle of Scotland, and Pucci. She appeared on the cover of Teen Vogue February 2008, after appearing in an editorial in 2007. She has an exclusive with Calvin Klein.

How can a 14-year-old girl dress like this? I was going to say that she looks like my grandmother, but she would never wear such an awful outfit! Ok, she's the daughter of a rockstar, but how can she afford those clothes? Another mistery to add to the Carrie one (how can a journalist who writes a column spend so much on clothes?)

Bloody Coolness

"How could she post this?" I hear you saying. This is the opposite kind of photographs that I like to post. The pics I usually publish are, more or less, perfect. Bright colors, beautiful models, elegant clothes, dreamy surroundings... Sometimes I can't avoid but staring at Vogue Paris editorials over and over again. Like I will see something new each time.
But the images I am posting today are totally different. Maybe they are photographed by Mario Testino, modelled by Eva Herzigova and styled by Carine Roitfeld, but I bet they are not what you are expecting.

Explanation for why I posted this editorial (I think I must explain it, or you'll think I am a crazy psychotic)
-The styling is the best I've seen in ages: who would have thought that a top by Valentino looked so well on a butcher? Next time you go to the supermarket, don't underrate the butcher, maybe he's wearing a Jean Paul Gaultier shirt!. Carine, you are a genius.
- This is something different. No extra accesories, no overdressing, nobody is jumping...
- I know that it is too creepy, the meat, the clothes stained with blood... things that could convert you into a vegetarian, like Jessica Stam after an editorial in a meat freezer, she never ate meat again. Sometimes I think how cruel is to kill animals, and I seriously think that I should be a vegetarian. But then I remember how much I love foie, and roast-beef, and bacon for breakfast, and spanish ham, and chicken wings, and... god, I'm hungry!
- This is just another fashion perspective. A different Mario.


"¿Cómo ha podido postear esto?" Os oigo decir. Estas imágenes son lo opuesto a lo que me suele gustar. Las fotos que normalmente publico son, más o menos, perfectas. Colores alegres, modelos guapas, ropa elegante, exteriores idílicos... A veces no puedo evitar quedarme mirando las editoriales una y otra vez, como si fuera a encontrar algo nuevo cada vez.
Pero esto que publico hoy es totalmente diferente. Puede que esté fotografiado por Mario Testino, que la modelo sea Eva Herzigova y que la estilista sea Carine Roitfeld, pero apuesto a que no son lo que os esperáis.

Explicación de por qué he publicado esto (creo que debo explicároslo, sino vais a creer que soy una loca psicótica)
- El styling es el mejor que he visto en mucho tiempo: ¿quién iba a pensar que una camiseta de Valentino le quedaría tan bien a un carnicero? La próxima vez que vayas a hacer la compra, no subestimes al carnicero, ¡puede que lleve una camisa de Jean Paul Gaultier!
- Es diferente. No hay accesorios extras, la modelo no está vestida de más, nadie salta...
- Sé que es demasiado tétrica esta editorial, la carne cruda, la ropa manchada de sangre... el tipo de cosas que te convierten en vegetariano, como le pasó a Jessica Stam después de una editorial en un frigorífico de carne, nunca más volvió a probarla. A veces pienso que es muy cruel matar a los animales, y me planteo seriamente hacerme vegetariana. Pero entonces me acuerdo de cómo me gusta el foie, el roast-beef, el filete de ternera, el solomillo, el beicon para desayunar, el jamón serrano, el pollo asado... qué hambre de pronto!
- Es simplemente otra perspectiva de la moda. Un Mario diferente.

This superhero trend is one of my favourites out there. Better than the warrior trend or the futuristic trend. I have always loved superhero movies: Spiderman, Batman (especially Robin...), Superman (the Christopher Reese ones), although their plot is very similar, I love watching them over and over. It's strange that I don't like the comics, isn't it?.

I am not describing the latest issue of US Vogue because it is almost everywhere, but do you have in mind Coco's editorial by Craig McDean?

Lately I've been seeing so many pictures of these two that it made me suspect. Why do they promote their marriage so much? "Heidi and Seal buying a giant giraffe" "Seal sings to Heidi in Victoria's Secret" "Seal sings the song written in their honeymoon" "Heidi & Seal reveal the secrets of their marriage"...
At least they seem happier than Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes...

Fashion Toast (Rumi) en Vogue

I must admit that Personal Style blogs usually appear to me as the most boring blogs ever. Unless they are so original and chic like Rumi's. I mean, the blogs that only post about what are they wearing, because although Susie Bubble's main posts are based on pics of her outfits, she always posts interesting reviews.

So let's talk about Fashion Toast. I discovered her blog because she added mine to her bloglist, and the same thing that happened when I discovered Gala's fotolog happened this time: I went through all the pages on her blog without getting tired of her elegant, modern and classic style. When you have loaded yourself with images of Rumi's outfits, you can see that her favourite colors are navy blue, white, black and brown, she hardly wears trousers and has zillions of sunglasses. She shops in Topshop, H&M, American Apparel, French Connection, Forever21... but the secret is: vintage clothes. She always wears original dresses, babydoll style, hippy and boho-chic. The type of style I wish I had.
The good news? She owns an ebay store where she sells beautiful clothes that you won't find anywhere else but there. Treasure Chest Vintage

Debo admitir que los blogs tipo "Mi estilo" me parecen de lo más aburrido que hay. A no ser que sean tan chic como el de Rumi. Me refiero a los típicos blogs en los que sólo postean sobre lo que llevan puesto, porque aunque Susie Bubble se centra en su propio estilo, siempre acompaña sus fotos con inteligentes reviews de moda.

Pero hablemos de Fashion Toast. Descubrí su blog porque ella me añadió a su lista de links, y lo mismo que me pasó cuando descubrí el fotolog de Gala me pasó esta vez: No pude parar hasta que leí cada entrada de su blog, no me cansé de su elegante y moderno pero clásico estilo. Cuando ya estás recargada de las fotos de Rumi, se ve cómo sus colores favoritos son el azul marino, el blanco, el negro y el marrón, que apenas lleva pantalones y que posee millones de pares de gafas. Compra en Topshop, H&M, Forever21, American Apparel, French Connection... pero el secreto es: ropa vintage. Siempre lleva vestidos originales, estilo babydoll, chic, hippie y bohemio. El tipo de estilo que desearía tener.

So Gossip Girl already started again... but I haven't seen it! I need to wait for them to translate the chapter. Although I can understand english almost perfectly, I don't want to miss a single word! :)

Gossip Girl ya ha empezado de nuevo... pero no he visto el último capítulo! Tengo que esperar a que los traduzcan con subtítulos, porque aunque entiendo el inglés casi a la perfección, no me quiero perder ni una sola palabra.
Para los que no vieron ayer el último capítulo, o para los que sí pero no les fue suficiente, aquí tenéis el vídeo del shooting del último Nylon (post actualizado)

By the way, has anyone read the books?. I bought them all and I can't stop! They are sooo good. The plot is similar but the characters are totally different. I won't tell you what happens in them, but for example, Dan is very selfish, while Chuck is not so mean like on the series. Serena is less sensitive and responsible and Blair is the most normal. I liked Rufus' character on the series, but in the books he's a dirty and antisocial guy, and he doesn't have a background with Serena's mother. Erik, Serena's brother, is studying/partying in Brown in the books, but in the series he's a responsible and sensible boy who tried to commit suicide. Vanessa is a lot cooler in the books, but in the series I can't stand her.


Por cierto, ¿alguien se ha leído los libros?. Yo me los compré todos y no puedo parar de leerlos!. Son bueníiisimos. El argumento es similar pero los personajes son totalmente diferentes. No os voy a contar lo que pasa, pero por ejemplo, Dan es súper egocéntrico, mientras que Chuck no es tan malo como en la serie. Serena en los libros no es tan sensible y buena chica como en la serie, en los libros es mucho más alocada e irresponsable. En cambio Blair es la más normal, no es tan mala en los libros. El personaje de Rufus, el padre de Dan y Jenny, me gustaba mucho en la serie, pero en los libros es el típico ermitaño que lleva barba de tres días y no sale de casa, ah, y no sale con la madre de Serena. El hermano de Serena, Erik, "estudia" en Brown, y no es el chico responsable y sensato que intentó suicidarse en la serie. Vanessa es mucho más interesante en los libros, pero en la serie no la puedo soportar.

Después de varias semanas de misterio, al fin sabemos los resultados de The Modettes: Premios Blog de Moda. Agradezco mucho vuestra participación, tanto como a los autores y autoras de estupendos blogs como a los que votaron desde Miss at la Playa por sus blogs favoritos.
Los blogs que habían sido nominados eran tan buenos todos que en varias ocasiones había empates en varias categorías (hasta ayer, que se quedó el empate en la categoría "Mejor Información").
Así que... redoble de tambores...!!
