This is probably my favourite film ever. The music is perfect, including tracks like "Ain't no sunshine when she's gone", "She"... The script is wonderfully written, the characters are totally unique and adorable. Although there are moments where you want to cry, the whole movie makes you smile. The best parts: when Hugh Grant goes to the cinema using the diving goggles because he can't find his glasses (his flatmate is sitting on them on the sofa). I also laughed a lot with the part when his friends are introducing him girls so he can forget Anna (Julia Roberts), but all of them are strange and weird, specially the one who says "Yes... these carrots... have been murdered". The scene of the sister's birthday is hilarious too, when Anna Scott, the superfamous actress, goes as a date of Hugh Grant, and all his friends recognize her except for one of them, and starts a conversation with her about her career, "What do you do?" "I'm an actress" "for films or theater?" "Films" "Oh, splendid, and how much did you earn with your last film?" "$15 million"
I can watch this film over and over and I'll still love it. It's a musical, but there are only two or three songs that are good. One is "My baby just cares for me", danced at the jewellery shop, the "Just you, just me" and when they are at the hospital because Skylar (lovely name, no?) ate the ring which Edward Norton had put in her ice-cream, as a surprise, and all the patients and doctors start to dance crazily.
The costumes are pretty good too.
Team Meg Ryan + Tom Hanks = total success.
It's one of the typical silly love comedies, but I love it.
The little bookshop is so cute, the one I'd love to have in the corner of my street, with nice shopping assistants, original and unique books... a familiar place.
Again Hugh Grant, it's not my fault, he chooses his films geniusly!. Andie McDowell looks great too.
Andie McDowell again, in one of her best films. The best things of this film? Bronte's best friend (she's hilarious) and the part when he plays the piano.
Bronte's a nature obsessed so he marries Gerard Depardieu's character because it was the only way of getting a beautiful house with a wonderful garden.
It's already a classic. Marilyn Monroe looking incredibly hot and Jack Lemmon looking incredibly funny. Who doesn't remember the last line? "well, nobody's perfect..."
My best friend's wedding
Another genius film. The maid of honors, the gay friend, the innocent bride, the jealous old friend... The best part is when Rupert Everett starts to sing "I say a little prayer for you" in front of her best's friend family, and leaving Julia Roberts totally embarrassed, although all of the members of the family sing with him dramatically, falling in love with him. It is one of the absurd moments that we get to see in films and wish it could happen in real life.
When Harry met Sally
If you thought women and men could be friends, it means that you haven't watched this film. Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal in the most classic love comedy of all times. It's written by Nora Ephron, one of the best writers out there, and directed by Rob Reiner. Nora herself admitted that the two main characters (Harry and Sally) are in fact Rob and herself. They didn't date, but their personalities are based in the two of them. As Rob said, Sally orders her food at the restaurants exactly as Nora does, giving an extremely long list of instructions: "I want a chicken sandwich, but without lettuce, the mayo on the side, don't fry the chips before the chicken as they will get cold and when I receive my dish I won't eat them cold, don't put carrots with the peas, I want them separated, but if you don't have carrots, don't put the peas..."
A lot like love
I must admit I had written "One fine day" as the ten best love comedy ever, but then I remembered this film with Ashton Kutcher and Amanda Peet and it was just a no-no to leave it out of this list. Sorry George Clooney and Michelle Pfeiffer.
"When Harry met Sally" and "A lot like love" are very similar films, it is an on-off couple, who are together for some days and then the years go by and they are separated, but then they meet again accidentally. I love both characters because from the beginning you kind of know that they will end together, but they are so silly that they fell apart again and again. Amanda's character is the typical woman who seems confident and strong, but she really isn't on the inside. Ashton's character is the unlucky guy who loses everything although he did all he was able to.
The soundtrack is pretty good too, my favourite song on this film is "Brighter than sunshine", really inspiring and sweet.
