Dressmakers' Superstitions

I was reading the book "Quotes by Coco Chanel" (it's amazing how wise this woman was. I'll be posting my favourite quotes at http://www.twitter.com/missatlaplaya), and I found this curious list of superstitions that dressmakers believe in. In fact, in the documentary about Signé Chanel (thanks Swanehals), they mention this tradition.

-Dressmakers are averse to green

-Weaving one of one's hairs into a wedding dress means marriage within a year

-A dress that falls from a hanger will be a success

-It is unlucky to drop a pair of scissors on the floor: Bad news, death. The only way of breaking the curse is saying "I don't care" seven times over your shoulder.

-Upsetting a box of pins means a quarrel.

-A knot in a measuring tape is a promise of work to come.

-Pricking a finger of the right hand concerns work. Pricking a finger on the left hand concerns the heart. Thumb=joy; forefinger=trouble; middle finger=love; ring finger=a letter; little finger=departure

El otro día estaba leyendo el libro "Quotes by Coco Chanel" (súper interesante, es increíble lo inteligente que era Gabrielle. Iré poniendo las citas que más me gustaron en http://www.twitter.com/missatlaplaya), y encontré una lista muy curiosa de las supersticiones en las que creen las modistas y las costureras. De hecho, en el documental sobre Chanel "Signé Chanel" (gracias Swanehals), también explican algunas de estas supersticiones.

- A las modistas no les gusta el verde.

- Coser un cabello propio a un vestido de novia significa que te casarás ese año.

- Un vestido que se cae de una percha será un éxito.

- Es de mala suerte dejar caer unas tijeras al suelo, significa malas noticias, muerte. La única manera de romper el maleficio es decir "No me importa" siete veces por encima del hombro.

- Si derramas una caja de alfileres, quiere decir que habrá una pelea.

- Un nudo en una cinta métrica es una promesa de trabajo por venir.

- Pincharse un dedo con la aguja de la mano derecha significa trabajo. De la mano izquierda atañe al corazón. Pulgar=alegría; dedo índice=problemas; corazón= amor; anular=una carta; meñique=una partida.
