Film Directors and Fashion Advertising

Thankfully, fashion advertising is quite good these days, and we can admire the work of the advertisers, as they collaborate with the best professionals on the area. Being a movie fan as I am, I love seeing how some of my favourite film directors create pieces of art for fashion brands like Chanel, Dior... It's a way of producing advertising disguised as culture. Culture that sells products, but art anyway. In fact, you'll see how most of these commercials are introduced as "films" instead of "ads".

I've selected some of the best examples. If you see, the director and actor choices are not arbitrary. Jude Law and Guy Ritchie worked together in "Sherlock Holmes", Jean-Pierre Jeunet directed Audrey Tautou in "Amelie" and "Un long dimanche de fiançailles", Joe Wright and Keira Knightley made "Pride and Prejudice"...

Dior
Guy Ritchie and Jude Law for Dior Homme
Jude Law and Michaela Kocianova star in this beautiful short film for Dior Homme released in septmber. The story is quite simple, but the photography direction is amazing. And Jude looks too good.

David Lynch and Marion Cotillard
David Lynch directed an episode of the "Lady Dior" series. It featured a Franz Ferdinand song composed exclusively for the ad titled "The eyes of Mars". Then Jonas Akerlund (director of "Telephone" by Lady Gaga's videoclip) directed a clip in which Marion sings the song herself.

Dior couldn't have chosen a better director to make the "Miss Dior Chérie" ad, don't you think?

Chanel
Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Audrey Tautou
This is probably one of the most beatiful adverts Chanel Nº5 has produced. The reflection of the fragrance bottle is not a special effect, it was real! When the video was released, Chanel sent a collector's chest with memorabilia, I posted about it.

Joe Wright and Keira Knightley
The ad for Coco Mademoiselle is just perfect. The soundtracks is L.O.V.E by Joss Stone. I've been listening to it on-repeat for the last three days.

Baz Luhrmann and Nicole Kidman
This advert is known as being the most expensive ad ever made. It costed more than $25 million. The ad is a movie itself, in fact, it could be a trailer of a blockbuster. If you haven't seen it, you really need to. You'll be amazed at how incredible it is. The dress Nicole Kidman wears was made specially for her. It is a work of art. In spite of using a very common song ("Clair de Lune" by Debussy. It is beautiful, but it's everywhere), it adds the perfect touch.

Martin Scorsese for Chanel Bleu
I love Martin Scorsese, and Gaspard Ulliel, so I had to love this ad too. It's one of the best examples of how film directors can transform their art into advertising and create masterpieces. By the way, Mark Reay (I've interviewed him many times for the blog) stars in the ad too! Can you spot him?

My outfit for H&M and Harper's Bazaar Spain

I told you everything about the visit to the H&M showroom with Harper's Bazaar Spain. But I had to keep a secret that I can finally reveal today. The bloggers invited, as well as Melania Pan (Harper's Bazaar Spain editor in chief) created an oufit with our favourite items. Yes, that's it, Melania Pan, Bartabac, Lady Addict, Fashion Vibe and I designed our perfect look using H&M's spring 2011 clothes. There's a different outfit for each of us. Those outfits will be displayed on a mannequin at five H&M stores in Spain: Bartabac and Fashion Vibe's in Barcelona, Lady Addict's in Sevilla, and Melania's and mine in Madrid. You'll find my look at H&M 37 Gran Vía, Madrid from Thursday (27 january) on.

It was difficult deciding which clothes I was gonna use, I loved many of them. Nevertheless, as soon as this beautiful short jacket caught my eyes I knew it had to be on my outfit. The heartshaped flower petals are incredibly cute. I can't wait to buy it. Then I had doubts whether to pair it with jeans or not, but I finally chose a salmon coloured skirt. To accesorize the look, I added a minibag and high heeled sandals. The videos of the looks are on Harper's Bazaar Spain brand new website.

You'll find the clothes on the look separately at most H&M stores, but my outfit will be on the hall of the Gran Vía (37) Madrid H&M shop on Thursday (january 27th) with a sign indicating it's by me. The look will be there for some weeks... :) I can't wait to see it! I'll run to the store on thursday. I'll post pictures!

Os conté con todo detalle la visita al showroom de H&M con Harper's Bazaar España. Pero tuve que guardarme un secreto que hoy por fin os puedo revelar. Las bloggers invitadas, y Melania Pan (directora de la revista), elegimos cada una nuestras prendas favoritas de la colección de primavera 2011 de H&M y confeccionamos un estilismo. Así es, Melania Pan, Bartabac, Lady Addict, Fashion Vibe y yo diseñamos un outfit cada una con las prendas que más nos gustaron (los looks son muy diferentes, ya veréis). Los estilismos estarán a partir del jueves (27 de enero) en un maniquí en la tienda H&M asignada a cada blogger: el look de Bartabac y Fashion Vibe en Barcelona, el de Lady Addict en Sevilla, y el de Melania en Madrid. El mío lo encontraréis en Madrid, en H&M de Gran Vía nº37 (¡mi preferida!).

Fue difícil decidir los outfits, había muchas prendas que me encantaban. Sin embargo, nada más ver esta chaquetita corta con pétalos en forma de corazón supe que iba a estar en mi look. Luego, estuve dudando si combinarla con unos vaqueros, pero al final elegí una falda en crèpe de color salmón. Para completar el look, un minibolso, y unas sandalias de tiras. Los vídeos de los looks están en la estupenda nueva página web de Harper's Bazaar España.

Las prendas podréis encontrarlas en casi todas las tiendas de H&M, pero el estilismo en el maniquí estará en entrada de la de Gran Vía nº37 (Madrid) a partir del jueves, con el nombre de Miss at la Playa. ¡No puedo esperar! El jueves iré corriendo y haré fotos, ya os enseñaré cómo queda.

Snowflakes on my backyard - cute accesories

Tamara Martín, a fellow blogger (ItHunter) and great friend, has recently started creating these beautiful accessories using embroidery. Aren't they cute and original?
